Guide to getting the Perfect Phone!

         Pay As You Go?
Looking for a phone that's just right for you? Then follow these few easy steps and you'll know exactly what you want!

1) Contract or Pay as you Go?
Do you want a phone on contract, on PAYG, or a sim-free phone (a phone which is already unlocked - it isn't on any network so you can put any sim card inside), or are you looking for an upgrade?
Contract?

2) Which network?
Which network do you want to go on or would you prefer a sim-free/unlocked phone?

3) What make?
What kind of phone do you prefer? Blackberry? Nokia? Alcatel? Apple's iPhone? HTC? LG? Motorola? Samsung? Sony Ericsson? And there's still so much more to choose from!

4) What type of phone?
Do you want a touch screen phone? Sliding phone? QWERTY phone? Flip phone? And if you care about colour, what colour phone would you like?

5) What do you want the phone to do?
The really important part of buying a phone is what you are going to use it for. If it is only to make calls and send texts and nothing else, then there isn't any point getting a phone worth £300, is there?
If you want to be able to access the internet then you'll be needing a wi-fi phone. If you want to access internet quickly and/or on the go then you're looking for a phone with 3G. If you like to text a lot then you should be looking at QWERTY phones. If you like apps a lot then you should get an iPhone; but if you don't want to spend that much or don't want an iPhone, then have a look at some Android phones. And if you want MSN with you everywhere you go, then a Blackberry is perfect for you!

5) What's your Price Range?
How much are you willing to spend on a new phone? Remember, the more expensive a phone is doesn't necessarily mean that it is better. Also, most phones tend to drop by more than half price within a year after release, so it may be worthwhile to wait a little for the price of a new phone to come down a bit, if you're on a tight budget!

7) Where should you buy the phone?
It's important to know the shop you are going to to get your phone so that you can get the best price or best contract possible.
Let's say you get a free Blackberry on contract for 12 months and with 300 texts and 200 mins for £35 a month, and then later realise that you could have gotten that same phone on contract for 6 months with unlimited texts, 500 mins and free BBM for only £20 a month. You're not gonna be very happy, are you?
The best place to buy phones in the UK is definitely Carphone Warehouse, although there are other good shops like Phones4U and even Argos, which actually sells quite good phones! Many people also prefer to buy their mobiles over the internet from websites like eBay.
